Hypothetically, if someone had a federal tax lien placed on them for unpaid back taxes (for liquidating a 401K plan to live after being unemployed for an extended period of time), would leaving and re-entering the US be a problem?

Employment opportunities seem to be better in Asia, C. America, etc. Bad credit and IRS problems seem to be making it difficult to acquire gainful employment, which is a little ironic because it would be a priority to fully pay back the IRS the $15K if a job were available.

I hope this is the right address to send questions.

I'm an American citizen living in the US. I'm married to a Colombian citizen who has dual citizenship in Colombia and Venezuela and also has her permanent residency here in the US.

Do you see any benefits to me getting Colombian and Venezuela residency/citizenship and passports?

I know a Colombian citizen with a Colombian passport has a really hard time getting a visa to travel to other countries. In fact, it's darn near impossible for a Colombian to get a US tourist visa unless they are rather well off.

I'm just thinking that down the road, if I would choose to renounce my US citizenship, I'm afraid a Colombian passport wouldn't do me much good for traveling to the US or Europe.

Simon, I love your commentary and opinions. I get a little tired of the luv/luv followers. Such as “Oh Simon, what kind of toothpaste do you use?” and Oh Simon, how do you wash your underwear and does it have brown streaks in it??” I get a little tired of that BS. But in reality, you have fans that are worried about those issues. Good luck dude!

Regarding your state of permanent travel, I recommend everyone takes a look at www.airbnb.com . You can rent anything from an apartment to a castle to a vintage yacht to stay on for one night, a week, a month, whatever.

The site is useful for 2 reasons: Unique worldwide travel destinations, and it's a great way to manage rental income properties from anywhere. Using Airbnb, a key drop, and a cleaning lady would be far cheaper than using a property management company to do essentially the same tasks - and can be almost as simple.

I just wanted to share that I got the Going Global report a little while back directly through Casey Research. (Which is actually how I first heard about The Sovereign Man newsletter.) I rarely buy reports and the like, but it was completely worth the $99. I am a US citizen and will be moving to another country before the end of the year. The report covers so many excellent and pertinent details for anyone even thinking of opening a foreign bank account, let alone moving abroad. And it includes tons of links to even more info and resources. I even printed it all out (which is nearly a book!)- that's how valuable I think it is.
