High yielding currency countries like Aussie, NZ and South Africa, Turkey offer deposit accounts in the plus 5% range and naturally higher for longer term deposits. Not advocating any of them just mentioning it. Currency risk absolutely does exist especially SA in my humble opinion.

Buying cash at a discount with a proven management team and a moat seems prudent as Simon mentions.

I guess that 8% rate is what fund investors get in those countries. Lots of people i know invest with emerging countries through these funds.

In China, there is an illegal but wide network of loan sharks, some of which only loan out to corporations at 30-50%!

Where do you get 8% in Thailand? The banks I've talke to would only give up to around 2% even for very long term deposits. And they told me it's like that in Thailand.
