You might think it’s perfectly safe to leave all of your savings in one country, or to hold your retirement assets in a mutual-fund-based 401(k), or to sock them all away in a stock-heavy IRA.
After all, that’s what the “experts” tell us to do.
And it might indeed be safe to do so. It’s quite possible that nothing will ever threaten your assets. You might never see your own version of what happened in Argentina, or in Cyprus, or even in the US in 2008-2009.
But if you look under the hood…
If you really examine what’s going on with your country’s banking system, or with the underlying drivers of the stock or bond markets, or with the motivations of your anonymous mutual fund manager...
Then you might not feel so confident about your assets’ future prospects.
Even high-quality real estate might not be a sure bet, given the current geopolitical and financial climate.
That’s why it’s essential to know what might hobble your assets… and how to thwart those hazards.
Fortunately, we live in a big world.
And just as you can pick the best neighborhood for the safety of your family, you can pick the best neighborhood for your savings, your business, and your assets.
By diversifying both domestically and internationally, you can dramatically reduce your risk, expand your freedom and take advantage of worldwide opportunities to increase your prosperity.
These kind of strategies used to be available only to the super wealthy and multinational-corporations with access to armies of lawyers and advisors.
But over the past few decades globalization has made these strategies accessible to just about anyone who has the right knowledge and the foresight to take advantage of it.
Note that these are the kinds of solutions that work in both a bull and bear market. They simply make sense… no matter what is happening.
That’s why none of this should be taken as a Doomsday warning. Rather, we’re here to help you seize often overlooked opportunities.
Yet despite all of the extraordinary possibilities out there, we must also stay realistic:
No one can deny that the world has gotten itself into a twist. Half the population seems pitched against the other half.
And when they’re not fighting, they’re spending themselves to death.
Governments are bankrupt. Nearly every single Western government has locked itself into an unsustainable, crippling position. Each has dug itself into a financial hole so deep that it will take generations to undo the damage.
Bottom line: They’re putting everything you've worked for all your life at risk. And their next steps will be to start eroding your freedom (if they haven’t already done so).
The United States leads the way in this race to the bottom, with $20 trillion in debt and a total net worth of MINUS $76.7 trillion, according to its own most recent annual financial report. That’s a negative net worth totalling in the tens of trillions.
And relative to the sizes of their own economies, Japan, Greece, Italy, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom are not far off.
Moreover, pension funds across the world are in dire straits.
In the United States, Social Security and Medicare report -- each and every year -- that their programs are rapidly running out of money. They have even calculated the date of their own insolvencies.
This isn’t some wild conspiracy theory, these are public reports signed by the Treasury Secretary of the United States.
We also see major risks with global central banks. Insolvency is the common theme.
Read that again: Insolvent Central Banks, the banks in charge of overseeing (and possibly rescuing) a country’s other banks.
On top of everything else, we also happen to be living through a period of rapidly deteriorating personal freedom.
Spy agencies are engaging in brazen surveillance on… everyone. Citizens. Allies. Everyone.
Civil Asset Forfeiture also continues to reach new heights: According to Justice Department data, total “financing sources”, i.e. money that the government stole from its citizens, more than doubled between 2015 to 2016.
And countless laws, rules, and regulations have turned the Land of the Free into a place where children can be arrested for eating French Fries on the metro. I’m not exaggerating.
These risks are already looming, and the potential consequences of their buildup are severe.
By the way, if you're a US resident, then you’re living in the most litigious society that has ever existed in the recorded history of humanity…
This is especially apt to note if you have your own business or make a tidy salary.
Make no mistake, you are a target: The more successful you become, the more the system tries to (financially) penalize you for your achievements, or to invent a reason for a lawsuit.
This is entirely the wrong direction for creating a prosperous, motivated society.
These risks are real. But they’re no cause for panic.
A rational, successful person merely needs to acknowledge the risks, and then take some simple, sensible steps to ensure that he or she doesn't end up a victim.
Many of these solutions can be implemented right from your couch. And again, they make sense… no matter what happens.
